Personas is an effective method widely applied in the design of Product Service System (PSS) to highlight relevant attitudes, needs, aspirations and behaviours of real segmentations of users in the specic context associated with the area of work. Exploiting Personas prole in the design of a PSS can fully engage designers in a continual discussion of who they are designing for throughout the lifecycle of the PSS, keeping the focus on target users and taking aligned decisions about architectural, UX and UI aspects. Furthermore, the Persona prole stimulates a high level of empathy with the segmentation of users. This avoids designers to cast their own will, needs and desires onto the PSS.
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how new extensions of the Personas method allow to eectively tackle specic PSS challenges in early stages of co-creation processes, with the result of achieving higher quality results on the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) sides. In particular, the contributions of this paper are (i) to contribute an improved Personas method in order to derive an enhanced Persona prole (the outcome of the Personas method) and (ii) illustrate the consequence of it on the research, user-specication and scenarios denition.
